Troy Calhoun is the only head football coach in the history of the Air Force Academy to lead the team to three consecutive seasons that included at least eight wins and a bowl game.
Calhoun's conference winning percentage makes him the only Air Force coach in any Mountain West Conference sport at the Academy to have coached at least three years and have an overall winning record in conference play. For his accomplishments, Calhoun was named the Mountain West Conference's 2007 Coach of the Year. Additionally, he was named Coach of the Year in Region 5 by the American Football Coaches Association and was one of eight finalists for the Eddie Robinson National Coach of the Year Award. He was also one of seven finalists for the AFCA National Coach of the Year award.
Calhoun came to the Academy in 2006 after serving as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach for the Houston Texans. During his time in the NFL he became a well-rounded coach; working as a defensive assistant, special teams assistant and offensive assistant with the Denver Broncos from 2003 to 2005.
Prior to the NFL, Calhoun was an offensive coordinator for six seasons on the collegiate level beginning with a graduate assistant position at the Air Force Academy. He also spent time on the coaching staff at Ohio University and Wake Forest University.
Born and raised in Oregon, Calhoun joined the Air Force Academy as a student in 1985. He started at quarterback in 1986 and was one of only two freshmen to letter for the 1985 team that finished fifth in the final polls with a 12-1 record that included wins over Notre Dame and Texas. Troy Calhoun also served his country from 1989-95 as an active duty officer in the Air Force.
Troy Calhoun and his wife, Amanda, live in Colorado Springs and have two children, Tyler and Amelia.
