Former head coach Steve Mariucci is an analyst on the NFL Network.
Mariucci, a 28-year coaching veteran, served as an analyst for the NFL Total Access Super Bowl XL pregame show in Detroit. In his role, he offers insight, analysis and a look inside the Xs-and-Os on NFL Total Access and the new NFL GameDay 90-minute wrap-up show each NFL Sunday. Mariucci also appears on NFL Total Access each Monday night of the regular season, on the pregame show for each of NFL Network’s eight games in the “Run Up to the Playoffs” package, and at numerous other events including Hall of Fame weekend, playoff games, Super Bowl XLI and the NFL Scouting Combine.
In April 2009, Mariucci was recognized for his work as an NFL Network analyst with his first Sports Emmy nomination in the Outstanding Sports Personality – Studio Analyst category.
His broadcasting versatility extends to 1-on-1 interviews, securing sit downs with notable NFL personalities such as Brett Favre, Jerry Rice, Joe Montana, John Madden, Giants head coach Tom Coughlin, Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin, former 49ers owner Eddie DeBartolo and the late legendary Bill Walsh, in his final interview. Mariucci’s interview with Rice was highlighted as part of NFL Network 2010 coverage from the Pro Football Hall of Fame as a one-hour special entitled, Jerry Rice: Catching History. The two former 49ers reunited to reflect on their time together in San Francisco and look back on Rice’s illustrious career that earned him a place in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
In nine seasons as an NFL head coach, Mariucci posted a 75-71 record. With the San Francisco 49ers (1997-2002), he earned four playoff berths in six seasons, captured two NFC West titles and advanced to the 1997 NFC Championship Game. He was head coach of the Detroit Lions from 2003-05 and served as head coach at the University of California at Berkeley in 1996.
Previously, he was quarterbacks coach with the Green Bay Packers from 1992-95, the first four years in Brett Favre’s Packers career. Favre threw for 14,825 yards and 108 touchdowns in those four seasons, earning 1995 AP NFL MVP honors and leading the Packers to the 1995 NFC Championship Game. Prior to his Packers tenure, Mariucci spent 10 years as an assistant coach on the college and professional levels.
A native of Iron Mountain, Michigan, Steve was born on November 4, 1955. He and his wife, Gayle, have four children: sons, Tyler, Adam, Stephen and daughter, Brielle.
