-- Aeolus

With over 26 years of experience on the field, Graham Poll is one of the most notorious football officials in English history. Throughout his career he covered an astounding 1,544 matches and often officiated the Premiership’s highest profile games. He was referee for the 2005 UEFA Cup Final and was the English representative at two World Cups as well as the UEFA Euro 2000. His achievements are considerable, yet he will always be remembered for issuing one player with three yellow cards at a World Cup match during the 2006 final competition in Germany.

Educated at The Thomas Alleyne School in Stevenage, England, Poll went on to have a successful sales career which began at Canon UK Ltd. An excellent communicator and presenter, he quickly moved up the corporate ladder and was eventually managing an expanding sales force at Coty UK while continuing to referee on the side. Eventually he realized that he could not do both and reluctantly left the corporate world to pursue his dream of becoming a Premier League referee.

In 1993, Poll was selected to become a Premier League official. He was consistently appointed to cover the league's most important football matches, and as a result, his career was at times controversial. In 2000, Poll disallowed a Liverpool goal in the remaining seconds against a match with Everton. Slow-motion television pictures later proved his call was incorrect and Poll bravely acknowledged his error. He later faced criticism in the 2003 Arsenal versus Sheffield FA Cup Semi-final when a player collided with him and he was unable to track the ball, much to the dismay of Neil Warlock, Sheffield’s manager at the time.

Poll retired from professional refereeing following the Championship play-off final at Wembley Stadium in May 2007. He has since released his autobiography, titled Seeing Red and also writes a weekly column in The Daily Mail and provides insight for Radio 5 Live and Setanta Sports. In addition, he is a frequent guest on the popular Eamonn Holmes Show on 5 Live.

An excellent after dinner speaker, Poll provides audiences with fascinating insight into the Premier and World League football scenes. Whether relating anecdotes about Roy Keane and Patrick Vieira and their legendary tunnel bust-up, learning French from Thierry Henry or falling foul of the wit of the crowd at Anfield, Poll is gifted at entertaining European corporate audiences. In addition, Poll can deliver a passionate inspirational message on topics such as adversity, pressure and teamwork.

Poll is actively involved in charity work and ran the 2008 London Marathon on behalf of the Iain Rennie Hospice at Home.
