On February 3, 2008, Eli led the Giants to victory in Super Bowl XLII in a 17-14 win over the undefeated New England Patriots. Called by many as one of the greatest upsets in Super Bowl history, Eli was named MVP for his outstanding performance. He and Peyton are the only brother combination to play quarterback in the Super Bowl and the only set of brothers to win Super Bowl MVP, doing so in successive years.
Eli played a crucial role in the team's victory with two impressive touchdown passes in the fourth quarter. He drove the Giants to the winning touchdown with 35 seconds left, highlighted by eluding the rush and arching a 32-yard pass to teammate David Tyree who leaped high and outfought safety Rodney Harrison for the ball. Eli capped the drive with a 13-yard flip to Plaxico Burress.
Along with his father, Archie, the legendary former New Orleans Saints quarterback, and his brother, Peyton, Super Bowl MVP quarterback from the Indianapolis Colts, Eli Manning carries the torch honoring his family's great NFL quarterback legacy.
Eli is a graduate of the University of Mississippi, where he received numerous academic and athletic honors. He set or tied 47 single-game, season and career records as quarterback of the Ole Miss Football team. Eli won many awards including the Maxwell Award as the nation's best all-around player, the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award, the National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame Scholar Athlete Award, the Sporting News Radio Socrates Award and the SEC Player of the Year, to name just a few. He graduated with a degree in Marketing. Eli was the number one selection in the 2004 NFL Draft.
Off the field, Eli is involved in numerous charitable organizations. He and his family assisted in the relief efforts after Hurricane Katrina by organizing airlifts of emergency supplies to areas affected by the hurricane in his hometown of New Orleans and surrounding areas. He has been honored by the Police Athletic League of New York City. Eli has become the Giants' leader in supporting the National Football League and American Heart Associations new campaign, What Moves U, a national youth movement and awareness initiative designed to promote physical fitness and healthy living to an increasingly inactive generation of children. He is also a member of the American Red Cross National Celebrity Cabinet. In addition, Eli is a member of the President's Council on Physical Fitness and Sports. He also uses his time to champion the efforts of St. Vincent Catholic Medical Center and The March of Dimes, and has made a five year commitment to raise $2.5 million for construction of the new Eli Manning Children's Clinics at the Blair E. Batson Hospital for Children in Jackson, Mississippi. This Super Bowl champion is also a champion for babies.
