Denis Charles Potvin is former Captain of the four-time Stanley Cup Champion New York Islanders hockey team. Upon his retirement in 1988, Denis held every conceivable scoring record by a defenseman in NHL history. His 15-year career with the New York Islanders was capped with a Hockey Hall Of Fame induction in 1991. During his career he captured the Calder Trophy for Top Rookie in 1974 and was a three-time Norris Trophy winner as the NHL's best defensemen. He was also a key member of the 1976 Canada Cup winning team, a team that many have called the best hockey team ever assembled.

Denis remains an infamous and active name in New York sports. To this day Rangers fans still chant about Denis every home game, cementing his legacy as one of the most feared opponents in Rangers’ history.

Following his retirement, Denis spent 15 years covering hockey with Fox, ESPN and CBC Canada. In 2004 he covered the Olympics in Torino for CBC Radio Canada, a French network.

As a speaker Denis enjoys using stories from his professional hockey and business careers to motivate, enlighten and inspire success - whether directed to businesspeople or today's youth. Denis believes talent is important, but preparation and focus are essential to winning in the board room or on the playing field.

Fishing, hunting, scuba diving and sporting clays are some of the outdoor interests that Denis enjoys. He has shot clays with General Schwarzkopf and fished for salmon in Norway with Curt Gowdy. Potvin and his wife Valerie are the proud parents of three children.
