In 1989, Bob McKillop was named head coach of the Davidson College Wildcats men's basketball program. He has lead Davidson to numerous conference division titles and tournament championships and has taken his team to three NCAA tournaments and postseason NITs, racking up more wins than any coach in Wildcat or Southern Conference history.
McKillop has received many accolades over the course of his coaching career including the 2008 National Coach of the Year Award by the National Association of Basketball Coaches and the Coach Clair Bee Award honoring the NCAA Division I basketball coach who has made the most significant positive contributions to his sport during the preceding year. He has also been named the Southern Conference Coach of the Year seven times.
McKillop grew up in Queens and Long Island, NY, and went on to play college basketball for East Carolina University before transferring to Hofstra University, where he was named team MVP. After graduating in 1972 with a degree in history, he was briefly signed as a free agent by the Philadelphia 76ers. He then accepted a job teaching history and coaching high school basketball, leading one of his teams to five New York State Championships.
McKillop and his wife, Kathy, have three children, all Davidson graduates.
