James A. Jackson is a former professional basketball player from Toledo, Ohio. He was chosen fourth in the 1992 NBA draft by the Dallas Mavericks where he joined Jason Kidd and Jamal Mashburn to form the 'Three J's', known to many as the talented young nucleus of the team. Over his 14 NBA seasons, Jackson was on the active roster of 12 different teams, tying the league record. He has participated in three NBA play-off tournaments averaging 10.1 points over 30 games. He also led the United States in scoring during the 1991 Pan American Games.
Prior to playing professional basketball, Jackson studied Economics and Business Finance at Ohio State University. Following his retirement from the NBA in 2001, he began a career in real estate by developing several restaurants located in Texas and Ohio.
Jackson's next projects included the construction of a new 5,000 square foot commercial building strategically located in Toledo’s Central City, the renovation of an existing commercial building in Downtown Toledo and most recently, redevelopment of the historical Toledo Edison Steam Plant, located along the Maumee River in Toledo, Ohio. The Steam Plant is a $30M conversion of the historic structure to a multi-family and condominium housing project. Along with assisting the City of Toledo in the revitalization of its downtown core, Jackson has also worked with the University of Toledo’s past and current President on their an Urban Mix-Use revitalization master plan for the Door Street Corridor.
As a Principal of Q3 Development Inc, a full-service real estate development firm in Northwest Ohio, Jackson’s responsibilities include development and expansion of their hospitality division as well as land acquisitions, debt and equity financing, joint venture opportunities and all legal matters pertaining to current and future projects. Jackson has also recently joined The Daimler Group, an Ohio-based company which specializes in Commercial and Medical Office products, as a development assistant to help establish opportunities within the local hospitality and student housing markets.
Ebony magazine has previously named Jackson as one of their '50 Leaders of Tomorrow' and Sports Illustrated has recognized him as one of six athletes that have shown exemplary community commitment.
Jackson is currently a lead analyst for the Big Ten Network, covering games and focusing on studio work.
