Tom Coughlin Jay Fund Foundation Hosts Successful Gala in New York City

New York Giants Head Coach Tom Coughlin took a night off from football recently to raise funds for his foundation at the 7th Annual Tom Coughlin Jay Fund Charity Gala, which provides financial and emotional support for families of children with cancer. The event, held at Cipriani in New York City, featured WNBC-TV Sports anchor Bruce Beck as master of ceremonies and was attended by players including Eli Manning , Prince Amukamara, Bear Pascoe, Zak Deossie, Jim Cordle, Brandon Jacobs, Mathias Kiwanuka, Lawrence Tynes, and Mark Herzlich.

Founded in 1996, The Tom Coughlin Jay Fund Foundation was created in the honor of Jay McGillis, a member of the Boston College Football team who developed leukemia while a member of the team. Then-Boston College head coach Tom Coughlin was inspired by the courage, compassion and faith he and his family demonstrated during the course of his illness. It is the mission of The Tom Coughlin Jay Fund Foundation to assist children with leukemia and other cancers and their families by providing emotional and financial support to help improve the children’s quality of life and to help reduce the family stress associated with going through this crisis. This allows the families to focus on what matters most – the health of the child.

The Jay Fund distributed over $500,000 in grants last year alone. Area non-profit partners are Friends of Karen, Newark Beth Israel Medical Center , NYU Langone Medical Center and The Valerie Fund.

Michele Tafoya joins NBC Sports

Michele Tafoya joins the NBC Sports Group as a sideline reporter for the Sunday Night Football games for the 2011/2012 season. She will also join the NBC Sports team for NFL season opener.

Tafoya made the move to NBC Sports after more than a decade at ABC/ESPN where she saw her profile rise steadily since 2000 through a variety of on-air roles, most notably as a reporter for Monday Night Football and ESPN’s NFL studio programs.

IMG Client Danica Patrick Moves Full-time to NASCAR

Danica Patrick has announced her full-time switch to NASCAR for the 2012 motor racing season. The former IndyCar star has been transitioning to NASCAR over the past two years, entering part-time schedules in the Nationwide Series with JR Motorsports. She has already competed in 20 races with a best result of fourth, claimed at Las Vegas last March. She also led laps and was a contender for victory last month in the second-tier series event at Daytona.

Patrick will compete full-time in the series next year with Dale Earnhardt Jr's outfit while making the next step on her way to the Sprint Cup Series. She will also attempt a number of Cup events next year with Stewart Haas Racing, owned by two-time Sprint Cup and former IRL champion Tony Stewart.

As the most well-known driver in the nation, her NASCAR move is expected to be a major boost for the series.

Deion Sanders to be Inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame

An eight-time Pro Bowler, Deion Sanders played 14 NFL seasons for the Atlanta Falcons, San Francisco 49ers, Dallas Cowboys, Washington Redskins and Baltimore Ravens. He holds multiple league records and has two Super Bowl wins under his belt. A two-time All-American at Florida State, Sanders was a first-round draft pick of the Atlanta Falcons in 1989. He is the only person in professional sports history to play in the World Series and the Super Bowl.

Sanders can now be seen on NFL GameDay Highlights and NFL GameDay Final. He's also a fixture on Thursday Night Kickoff Presented by Sears, NFL Network’s two-hour live pregame show, as well as Thursday's Sprint Halftime Show and Kay Jewelers Postgame Show.

Sanders will enter the class of 2011 Pro Football Hall of Fame along with six other NFL legends. Each candidate has been voted on by a 44-person committee made up nationwide media representatives, a representative from the Pro Football Writers of America and 11 at-large delegates.

GMA's Robin Roberts to be Inducted Into the 2012 Women's Basketball Hall of Fame

Roberts, currently co-anchor of ABC’s Good Morning America, received the nomination for her overall contributions to the game. Larry Holmes, former World Heavyweight championship boxer, has proved that hard work and discipline will guide you towards your life goals. Using what is considered one of the greatest weapons in the history of boxing, Holmes was the WBC Heavyweight Champion from 1978 to 1983, The Ring Heavyweight Champion from 1980 to 1985, and the IBF Heavyweight Champion from 1983 to 1985. In 2008 Larry was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame. Since his retirement, he has been active in various successful real estate and restaurant ventures and gives motivational speeches throughout the country.

Franco Harris is well-known for his outstanding career in the National Football League. During his years with the Pittsburgh Steelers, Harris set the standard for NFL running backs, established many team and league records, played in nine Pro Bowls, and led the Steelers’ charge to four Super Bowl victories. Following his successful career in the NFL, Harris completed his college degree in Food Service and Administration and founded Super Bakery (re-named R Super Foods in 2006) along with various other entrepreneurial ventures.

Eric Mangini is the former head coach of the Cleveland Browns and New York Jets. Mangini began his own NFL career when he grabbed the attention of Bill Belichick as a 23-year-old ball boy with the Cleveland Browns. In 2006, at the age of 35, he became the youngest head coach at the time in the NFL when he was hired by the New York Jets. In his first season, Mangini led the Jets to a 10-6 record and a postseason berth with NFL Comeback Player of the Year Chad Pennington as his quarterback.
