Venus Williams wins 5th Wimbledon Singles Championship
Congratulations to IMG client Venus Williams on winning her 5th Wimbledon title.
Reprising their Sister Slam Show in the Wimbledon final after a five-year hiatus, Venus and Serena Williams smacked big serves, hit hard strokes from all angles and chased down seemingly unreachable balls, like no one else does. Overcoming an early deficit, Venus beat Serena 7-5, 6-4 Saturday for her second consecutive title at the All England Club and seventh major championship overall.
"I can't believe that it's five," said Venus, 28, who now owns seven career majors, one fewer than her sister's eight. Saturday's meeting was the first all-Williams Grand Slam final since Wimbledon in 2003, when Serena won her second consecutive title vs. Venus.

JIM NANTZ RELEASES NEW BOOK
Jim Nantz's new book, Always By My Side: A Father's Grace and a Sports Journey Unlike Any Other, was recently released. Always By My Side is an inside look at the unprecedented 63 days (from February-April 2007) when Nantz became the first broadcaster to call the Super Bowl, the Final Four and the Masters. Because Nantz was unable to share this voyage with his dad, who was suffering from Alzheimer's disease, this remarkable journey through America's premier sporting events was bittersweet. In the book, Nantz shares his personal stories from football, basketball and golf and how he has met people along the way who remind him of the virtues his father instilled in him. The foreword to the book is written by one of his father figures and dear friend, former President George H.W. Bush.

Super Bowl Champion NY Giants Visit the White House
President Bush lauded the NFL Champion Giants, calling their Super Bowl XLII triumph over the New England Patriots, “one of the great, legendary games in our country’s history.”
Bush made his remarks at a 30-minute ceremony to honor the 2007 Giants on the South Lawn of the White House that capped an incredible day for the organization. Approximately 40 players, the coaching staff and members of the front office visited with wounded soldiers and Marines at Walter Reed Army Medical Center. The group received a private tour of the White House, then a standing ovation at the ceremony, which was also attended by Vice President Cheney, members of New Jersey and New York’s congressional delegation, and approximately 1,000 Giants fans, who cheered wildly as the champions took their positions for the ceremony and were feted by the president.
“In looking back, it’s hard to find many of the experts who predicted a Giant victory,” said Bush, noting that the Giants were once 0-2 and the Patriots entered the Super Bowl 18-0. “Most people were calling it a cakewalk; you know, be prepared to turn off your television sets early, because this isn’t much of a game you’re about to watch.” Bush went on to say it was a great game, which the Giants won, 17-14.
For the players who are so accustomed to being the center of attention, it was refreshing to play the wide-eyed fan for a change. For all the Giants, it was a remarkable day they will never forget. Coughlin summarized it best when he said, “I hope it’s not a once-in-a-lifetime experience

Herschel Walker releases his first book, Breaking Free
Herschel Walker releases his first book, Breaking Free, an account of his struggle with mental illness.
Herschel Walker is widely regarded as one of football's greatest running backs. He led the University of Georgia to victory in the Sugar Bowl on the way to an NCAA Championship and he capped a sensational college career by earning the 1982 Heisman Trophy. Herschel spent twelve years in the NFL, where he rushed for more than eight thousand yards and scored sixty-one rushing touchdowns.
But despite the acclaim he won as a football legend, track star, Olympic competitor, and later a successful businessman, Herschel realized that his life, at times, was simply out of control. He often felt angry, self-destructive, and unable to connect meaningfully with friends and family. Drawing on his deep faith, Herschel turned to professionals for help and was ultimately diagnosed with dissociative identity disorder, formerly known as multiple personality disorder.
While some might have taken this diagnosis as a setback, Herschel approached his mental health with the same indomitable spirit he brought to the playing field.
In his speeches, Herschel shares his story -- from the joys and hardships of childhood to his explosive impact on college football to his remarkable professional career. And he gives voice and hope to those suffering from mental illness. His compelling account testifies to the strength of the human spirit and its ability to overcome any challenge.
